Our Veterinarians

Dr. Mary Ann Johansen, DVM

Dr. MaryAnn Johansen completed her veterinary education at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Following a period of working in a mixed animal practice, she took a bold step towards independence and established Converse Animal Hospital in 1997. Her particular focus lies in soft tissue surgery and preventive healthcare. Currently, Dr. Johansen, along with her husband and their dog Astro, live in an apartment situated above their barn, which serves as the residence for their four horses and a pony. During her leisure hours, she takes pleasure in activities such as horseback riding, hiking, and tending to her koi pond.

Dr. Sarah Chude, DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Chude has been an integral part of the Converse Animal Hospital team since 2005, fulfilling her lifelong aspiration of making a positive impact on both animals and people by practicing high-quality medicine. She embarked on her academic journey by attending Texas A & M on an academic scholarship for her undergraduate studies. Later, she seized the opportunity to pursue her veterinary education abroad, spending three years in Grenada, West Indies, and completing her final year of clinical studies at University College Dublin, Ireland. Even during her high school and undergraduate years, Dr. Chude demonstrated her passion for animal sciences by authoring and co-authoring several books. Growing up in a military household, she has found joy in raising her family in San Antonio. Beyond her professional commitments, she indulges in a range of interests, including horseback riding, fencing, camping, reading, and various crafts.

Dr. Fara Flados, DVM

Dr. Flados was born and raised in Austin Tx, but has come to find San Antonio as her second home. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Bio-Medical Sciences in 2009 and subsequently attained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 from Texas A & M University. Dr. Flados is an active member of both the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Having personally witnessed the natural aging process in her own animals, her mission is to ensure the happiness and well-being of your pets for as long as possible through the provision of top-notch medical care and treatment. Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Flados indulges in her love for reading and engages in a variety of outdoor pursuits including hiking, biking, kayaking, and more.
